When we find out that Hassan and Amir are brothers, everything seems to make sense. We can look back at previous chapters and see the foreshadowing. The significance of this revelation is that we know they had such a deep connection, and from the beginning Amir is the one who continually denied it. In the beginning of the book there is a line in which Amir is comparing his relationship to Hassan as brotherly.
When we look back at what we have read, the whole story seems to be much clearer than before. The stories about both Hassan and Amir’s mother’s being dead, and also their connection, and also the way Baba treats Hassan especially add to the evidence that they are brothers. We can see throughout this book that there was more to the story than we knew. Reading this big reveal makes me wonder what other secrets there are that have not been revealed to us yet.
If I discovered something of this sort in my family I would be very upset and confused. I would not understand why my parents did not tell me the truth, and I would also be so upset that I had been believing a lie for all of my life. I would have trouble trusting my family if I found out a big secret like that.

Personal reflection:
When I was thinking about what to write for this mini essay, I was really contemplating what I would be feeling if someone lied to me about having a sibling. The feelings would be unexplainable. I think that this plot twist in the book makes the novel so much more interesting.
